GREASE PROOF PAPER

Food cooking, wrapping and baking paper forms a group of paper which comes in “Contact with food “ and generally has “ Low surface energy” so as to prevent absorption of oil and grease through it’s surface. This group of paper definitely is certified by international authorities as safe to be in contact with food or in other words are certified “ Food safe”.

Greaseproof paper is a type of “FOOD contact paper, which comes in contact with food” which is impermeable to oil or grease and is normally used in food packaging.

Refining the paper stock and thus creating a paper sheet with very low porosity and low surface energy, which enables it to repel oil and grease is called greaseproof paper.

The sheet of paper is super calendared to further improve It’s density, it leads to a grade of paper called glassine. (Glass like translucent appearance)

The glassine is then treated with starches; alginates or carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) in a size press to fill pores or treat the paper chemically,(to make it lowers it’s surface energy) to make it grease/oil/fat repellent. – GREASE PROOF PAPER.

Common basis weights are usually 29gsm – 50gsm (But can be produced in 26gsm and up to 90gsm as well and all other gsm in between against specific custom order)

Grease proof paper (GP) is available in Bleached (White), unbleached and also in Grey (Produced against order) and is characterized by it’s KIT Value.

(KIT test measures the grease and oil resistance measured by its KIT value which ranges from 1-12 where 1 values has the least resistance and 12 has the max resistance to penetration of grease /oil through the surface of paper)

Available in both in reel as well as in sheets (Reams of 800, 400 and 1200 sheets as below)

Common available sizes are:

30gsm KIT 3-4 ; WS 5-8% Bleached ( White)
Sizes:
• 400x 330 mm -800 sheets per ream
• 400x 660mm – 400 sheets per ream
• 400x 220mm – 1200 sheets per ream
• 510x 760mm – 400 sheets per ream

Premium greaseproof paper is normally available in 32 gsm and in KIT 7 -8 in both sheets and in reel.
Sheet sizes are same as above.

32gsm and 38/40gsm with KIT 6-7 and 5-8% WS in reel or in sheets (or even higher KIT) can be arranged against order.
